“People who come to this country and commit terrorist activities cannot expect to have a short holiday at the expense of our Government and return home as heroes,” wrote Chief Justice Sir Ronald Davison of Auckland High Court in his judgment on the two French agents. Although both agents were sentenced to ten years in prison, they were transferred after eight months to the French military base on the Pacific atoll of Hao. In less than three years they were allowed to return home to France where they were received with military honors.
